Is walking meditating?

Updated: Mar 12

I love walking. Not specifically trekking, just walking. We have not had a car for 5 years now (not that necessary in London I find) and I try to walk everywhere. Time and distance permitting of course ! Sometimes listening to the radio, sometimes giving my friends a call but mostly just walking. Just with me and my thoughts. I let them roam around my head freely, I allow myself to day dream. Sometimes I have great ideas and sometimes… nothing, just a flow of random thoughts, slowly drying out and bringing me a bit of stillness. This is why during my day retreats and holidays I always include a silent walking. Because there is something special to walk in silence with others. Being able to listen to nature, the birds, the stream or river, even the noise of civilisation never very far away. There is something really calming to share in silence, what we live. We are here, present with ourself, alone with our thoughts but at the same time in a group, together, having the same experience. To me it is a beautiful and one of my favourite type of meditation. The body moving allows the mind to still. Have you tried it? If not get some friends, go walking and set yourself a time frame to stay silent, side by side. Otherwise join me in one of my retreat, Loudwater farm on 16th March and Hossegor in May. #yogadayretreat #yogaholiday #walkingmeditation #yogateacherlondon #yoga #walking #daydreaming #meditation
